Petplan and NAWT

As part of our commitment to the continued support of animal charities throughout the UK, we launched our Petplan Charity Days.

The Charity Days are an initiative set up by our senior management team to allow Petplan employees the opportunity to take time out of their working day to volunteer at animal charities and rehoming centres.

Petplan are not your ordinary pet insurance organisation, we are dedicated to improving the welfare of animals. That’s why we organise volunteering days at animal rehoming charities, such as the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT). We try our best to support our charities and the animals they care for in any way we can.

On 21st October 2013, Petplan employees spent a second fantastic day volunteering at NAWT’s Watford centre, following on from a successful day there in 2012 where we helped them prepare for their open day.

This year’s volunteering day was all about making the centre look as appealing as possible for potential rehomers. This involved some hard graft at the entrance to the rescue centre.

The Petplan team took off their business shirts, rolled up their sleeves and put on their gardening gloves for a day of hard but satisfying work! The team involved cleared the centre’s entrance and painted the fence in the two tones of blue used in the NAWT logo. With 12 employees keen to help, we were able to complete a job that would have taken the centre’s handyman Lee at least a whole week, all in one day!

We were also lucky enough to get to meet some of the gorgeous dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs looking for loving new homes.

NAWT Watford Centre Manager Jackie de Friez wrote to us shortly after the open day, commenting:
"A big thank you to everyone at Petplan who came to spend the day with us. The area you updated looks amazing and it will make such a difference to the centre. I would also like to say what a lovely bunch of hardworking guys you all were and how much we really appreciated all the work you did.”

If you're an animal charity or know of a local rescue centre who would like to take part in one of our volunteering days then please contact events@petplan.co.uk.
