Petplan workers ‘paws’ from day job for charity work

Haslemere branch of Cats Protection

The Haslemere branch of Cats Protection had a welcome litter of helpers when ten employees from Petplan, the UK's largest pet insurance provider, swapped their desks for the cattery as part of the pro-bono work the company regularly undertakes.

Petplan works with rehoming centres across the UK and offers its staff 10 hours a year to volunteer at an animal charity. The aim of this is to not only to support our charity partners and give something back to a worthy cause but also provides Petplan employees with hands-on animal care experience.

Simon Masding, Petplan Head of Sales and Partnerships commented: "We understand how important charities like Cat's Protection are when it comes to rehoming cats. Although we give over £2 million to animal charities each year, nothing beats hands-on support so we can practice what we preach."

Whilst at the branch, Petplan employees undertook a range of activities from cat pen cleaning, feeding and the ever-popular socialising with the cuddly creatures. The care given by the Petplan team provided an important service for cats who require regular human contact to keep them 'social', making them easier to be rehomed.

Suzie Prigmore at Cats Protection added: "We have a great relationship with Petplan and we were thrilled to hear they wanted to spend their pro-bono day working with Cats Protection. The Haslemere centre has permanent staff but an extra pair of hands never goes a miss."
