Lifetime or time-limited cover

We understand that you will have different requirements from your pet insurance policy. The type of plan you choose may depend on your budget, the type of pet you own or the amount of vet fees cover you think you may need. One of the most important considerations when choosing pet insurance is whether you want a lifetime policy that will provide cover for long-term and recurring conditions.

On the subsequent pages we have provided information about each of our insurance plans and have explained the difference between our Covered for Life and Petplan Essential product.

Petplan Covered for Life policies renew the vet fee benefit each year for the rest of your pet's life provided the policy is renewed each year with no break in cover. Many other insurers will only pay for 12 months' treatment, or up to a maximum amount for that condition, and then cover for that condition ceases. The table below illustrates which insurers offer lifetime cover.

Whether you choose the Petplan Classic or Petplan Ultimate Plan you can be assured that our lifetime pet insurance will provide a broad range of cover for you and your pet. As one of only a small number of providers that offer a genuine lifetime pet insurance policy* our Covered for Life policies are designed for pet owners concerned about their pet developing a long-term, chronic or recurring illness.

If you own a pedigree dog, cat or rabbit then it is important to be aware of the long-term illnesses and conditions that your breed is prone to. Such conditions may include arthritis or diabetes and would need treating by a vet over a long period of time, often for life. With the ongoing cost of veterinary treatment potentially running into hundreds or even thousands of pounds each year, our lifetime policy will give you that much needed peace of mind that your pet will be covered throughout his/her lifetime, as long as you renew each year.

Petplan Essential – A time-limited policy

Our Petplan Essential policy offers you valuable protection for a limited period after an injury or illness that requires vet treatment. Petplan Essential provides up to £3,000 vet fees cover for each illness or injury for up to 12 months from when the problem was first noticed. If your pet requires behavioural treatment or physiotherapy, our Petplan Essential plan will cover the cost up to your vet fees maximum benefit.* Our time-limited policy also offers cover for older pets and with no upper age limit at policy inception, is a popular product for owners concerned about the conditions that their pets may be susceptible to during old age.
