Leatherhead woman voted top vet in profession

Lucy Kells is Voted Vet Nurse of the Year at the Vet Oscars

Local vet nurse, Lucy Kells of Wildlife Aid Foundation in Leatherhead, has been awarded the prestigious title of 'Vet Nurse of the Year 2012' at the Petplan Veterinary Awards - the Oscars of the veterinary profession.

Lucy has been in the industry for nearly 21 years and at Wildlife Aid Foundation for the past two years. She feels passionately about getting animals well and back out into their natural habitat so working at Wildlife Aid is the ideal job for her. Some of her colleagues have even dubbed her the 'Florence Nightingale of the animal world' due to her dedication and inspiring manner.

Lucy said: "Receiving the Vet Nurse of the Year award is unbelievable. To be recognised for working in a wildlife charity is the ultimate achievement for me and I really thank Petplan for honouring me with this award."

Isabella von Mesterhazy, Petplan's Head of Marketing, explains: "The Petplan Veterinary Awards, now in their 13th year, are about thanking the Veterinary profession for the outstanding level of care they provide to our animals. The awards recognise and celebrate nominated staff and practices throughout the country and Lucy is a fantastic example of the exceptional service vet nurses provide to clients and their pets. We are delighted to name her Petplan's Vet Nurse of the Year 2012."

She added: "A record number of over 3,000 nominations were received, demonstrating the importance Britain places not only on their animals, but also the dedicated veterinary professionals that care for them."
