Real pets to star in Petplan’s new national TV ad
Petplan, the UK’s largest pet insurer, has selected fame hungry dogs, cats and rabbits to star in its first ever ‘user-generated’ TV advert. From over 29,000 everyday pet photos submitted to the Petplan UK Facebook page, 100 finalists were handpicked by an independent panel of judges and the lucky 42 chosen by public vote.* Winners include a total 31 dogs, 7 cats and 4 rabbits.
Amongst the animal stars of the advert is Evie, a Whippet from Hereford who tours the country as part of a dog display team and can jump through fire hoops; Holly, a Ragdoll from Chesterfield, who’s not only a wonderful pet but also a successful show cat and Rupert, a Netherland Dwarf crossed with a Lionhead, from Shrewsbury, who enjoys nothing more than sitting on his owner’s bed to watch TV. Rupert’s owner, Rebekah Seward is excited to see her telly loving rabbit’s reaction when he sees himself on the small screen!
Many of the pets have wonderful stories and backgrounds, such as Matilda, a Chinese street dog who had a troubled start to life being caught up in the Sichuan earthquake in China back in 2008 and rescued by the charity, Animals Asia.
All 42 winning images have been selected to feature in a one-off television advert to be aired nationwide on primetime TV on 17th July. The pet images will be accompanied by a voiceover by Ben Miller from comedy double act Armstrong and Miller.
Isabella von Mesterhazy, Petplan’s Head of Marketing, said "At Petplan we pride ourselves on being ‘pet people’ and as a nation of known animal lovers, what better way to celebrate this than give real pets the chance to star in our TV ad. This competition captured genuine emotion and sentiment amongst pet owners and the final ad will evoke the same feelings when viewed."
To catch the advert live on Wednesday 17th July, tune into the TV programme the Zoo on ITV between 8pm-9pm. You will also be able to watch the advert on the Petplan website: www.petplan.co.uk and the Petplan UK Facebook page: www.facebook.com/PetplanUK.
