Time Limited Dog Insurance

What is Time Limited Insurance?

If your dog is ill or starts to show signs of an injury then we can cover that condition for up to 12 months. The maximum amount we will pay for any one condition in 12 months is £3,000.

Arrow right

We will pay for treatment for up to 12 months regardless of when you took out the policy, providing you continue to pay your premium.

Arrow right

After 12 months we can no longer pay for treatment for that condition but any new illnesses or injuries can still be claimed for.

For Example

If your dog developed an ongoing condition such as diabetes:

  • If you had 12 month cover for your dog starting in August, and he showed signs of diabetes in November, you can claim for his treatment for this condition until November of the following year (12 months) providing you renew your policy and continue paying your premiums.
  • After this time, all cover for diabetes will stop and this condition will be excluded from your policy.

What’s Included in Our Vet Fee’s Cover?

Dog being hugged

When choosing insurance for your dog, making sure that you have inclusive veterinary fees cover is vital - 98% of the claims we receive are for veterinary fees. However, not all dog insurance offers a broad range of cover for vet fees and there can be limits on the types of treatments you can claim for. It’s important to do your research and read the Terms and Conditions so you know what your dog is covered for.

At Petplan we cover a wide range of veterinary treatments for dogs, these include but are not limited to:

  • Pregnancy and breeding
  • Routine treatments e.g. worming, flea treatment
  • Preventative care e.g. vaccinations

All our policies are subject to Terms and Conditions, so please read this carefully to understand what you are covered for.

Excess and Premium Costs

What will my excess be and will my excess change?

Your policy will have fixed excesses that vary depending on factors such as the type of dog you have and the type of plan you choose. To see the excess you would pay it is best to get a quote, but bear in mind from time to time this could change.

As your dog gets older we typically add a 20% excess when you claim (in addition to the fixed excess). This helps us keep premiums affordable for older pets. For Essential plans this is usually added at their 8th birthday (5th for some breeds). But don’t worry, you will be advised of this change at least a year in advance.

How much does dog insurance cost? Will my premium change?

There are a number of factors that affect how much your dog insurance will cost, such as your dog’s age, breed and where you live. However, your premium is also influenced by increases in veterinary costs and advancements in veterinary medicine. These changing influences mean your premium will increase over the lifetime of your policy. However, Petplan will not increase your premium as a direct result of any claim you make.
