Earlier this month, Rufus a brave and boisterous three-year old, Newfoundland, was named the 'top dog', after beating off stiff competition, to become Petplan's Cover Star and appear on the front cover of the latest copy of PetPeople magazine!

After receiving several hundred entries, Rufus' story caught the attention of the PetPeople judges because of his bravery to overcome a difficult illness so early in his life. As a 12 week old rescue dog, Rufus developed a bacterial infection that made him severely ill for the first year of his life, enduring test after test until he was diagnosed with a pancreatic condition.

Although Rufus now requires daily medication, "he is full of energy, and loves swimming; in summer, we train in reservoirs with the Rother Valley Training Group." says his owner Rebecca Hodgson.

As our Cover Star, both Rufus and Rebecca, enjoyed a day of pampering and an exclusive photo-shoot, with professional artists, stylists and a dog groomer, and is on the cover of the current issue of PetPeople, as well as in Petplan's monthly e-newsletter.

PetPeople is Petplan's customer magazine, filled with a mix of advice, educational information, entertaining features and incredible reader offers. PetPeople now has an average circulation of over 500,000 people across the UK.

"I think Rufus has really enjoyed today,' says Rebecca. 'I spent last night preparing him for today because he can be a bit slobbery, but I think he's kept pretty clean – thank goodness!'
