London woman is voted top vet

Zaila Dunbar is Voted Vet of the Year at the Vet Oscars

Local vet, Zaila Dunbar of Queens Park Veterinary Clinic in London, has been awarded the prestigious title of 'Vet of the Year 2012' at the Petplan Veterinary Awards – the Oscars of the veterinary profession. Zaila is only the second woman to win the prestigious award in its thirteen year history.

Zaila qualified as a vet over 12 years ago and has worked at Queens Park Veterinary Clinic for seven years. Zaila has wanted to be a vet for as long as she can remember and finds every day different and rewarding. It was Zaila's brilliant balance of medical knowledge and emotional empathy that stood out for the judges. She was described as an immensely caring and compassionate vet who goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Zaila said, "I'm completely overwhelmed, this is such a wonderful award to receive and a fantastic achievement. I've learnt so much from all the clients and people I work with and their continued support makes me who I am."

Zaila Dunbar is Voted Vet of the Year

Isabella von Mesterhazy, Petplan's Head of Marketing, explains: "The Petplan Veterinary Awards, now in their 13th year, are about thanking the Veterinary profession for the outstanding level of care they provide to our animals. The awards recognise and celebrate nominated staff and practices throughout the country and Zaila is a fantastic example of the exceptional service vets provide to clients and their pets. We are delighted to name her Petplan's Vet of the Year 2012."

She added: "A record number of over 3,000 nominations were received, demonstrating the importance Britain places not only on their animals, but also the dedicated veterinary professionals that care for them."
