Petplan Dog show comes to Southern Counties

Petplan, the UK’s largest pet insurance provider, has announced their sponsorship of the Southern Counties dog show, which will run from the 4th – 6th June.

Newbury, in the Southern Counties has been chosen as one of the four Championship Dog Shows to host the new and improved Petplan Junior Stakes Qualifier in June 2010. Petplan hope the new format will get more dog-lovers in the southern regions attending the show.

Petplan’s Marketing Manager Alison Andrew commented, “We are delighted to be working with the Southern Counties, and we want to open the event up to dog lovers throughout the counties by making the show easier for the general public to understand.”

Petplan will be handing out booklets which will help explain the basics of dog showing, additionally, expert “guides” will be available at the venue to help newcomers and members of the public around the show, by explaining the judging system and answering questions. Petplan will also have a hospitality area at the show available to their customers.

The Southern Counties show, now settled into its Newbury venue, the Newbury Agricultural Showground, which is situated just off the M4 motorway, has long prided itself on being an “exhibitors’ show” with over 3,000 dogs attending each year, 50 trade stands and many attractions including special Charity stakes classes. There will also be opportunities for visitors to experience great cuisine at numerous food stalls and enjoy drinks at the licensed bar as well as plenty of car parking facilities.

On behalf of its committee and its exhibitors Southern Counties Chairman, David Cavill, said that he was absolutely delighted with the news that the Association had been selected to run one of the four heats of the Petplan Junior Stakes competition.

“To be held in such high regard by one of the most respected companies within the world of dogs is, in itself, an accolade and is a reflection of the support the Association has had over the years from exhibitors and the hard work put in by its committee and its many friends from stewards and judges to contractors and trade stand holders.”

The Petplan Junior stakes qualifiers will be at Scottish Kennel Club, Blackpool and the City of Birmingham with the final being held in Manchester in 2011.
