Responsible cat ownership with Cats Protection

Cats Protection and Petplan have joined forces to help you with all you need to know about being a responsible cat owner. Whether you need advice on first-time cat ownership or want to know why your cat acts in a certain way, we’re here to help.

We know that getting a cat, or kitten, is both exciting and daunting, and there's lots to think about - from making your home ready for their arrival to keeping them safe. We often think of cats as very independent pets, but as an owner, you're responsible for meeting their needs and keeping them happy and healthy. Part of this is protecting them from pain and suffering and treating any injuries and illnesses. Vaccines, microchipping and regular vet check ups are an important part of this.

We’re here to:

  • Help you understand your cat’s needs and behaviours. For example, their environment, diet, companionship needs, and health
  • Answer your common cat questions from behaviour problems to health issues
  • Provide you with an understanding of how to best look after your cat as a responsible owner

Our partnership and goals

Petplan and Cats Protection have been in partnership for over 20 years. Petplan provide every cat Cats Protection rehomes with four weeks’ free insurance to help ensure each cat has the best start when leaving Cats Protection care. Since 2001, over 645,000 cats have benefited from this free insurance!

Over the last 20 years, Petplan has supported Cats Protection by raising vital funds to support their work. This funding is the equivalent to neutering and microchipping a staggering 241,700 cats in Cats Protection care.

Together, Petplan and Cats Protection are working to:

  • Champion responsible pet ownership and help improve the health of cats across the UK, to create a nation of healthy cats and happy owners
