"Not quite! While those dark mornings can make staying under the duvet tempting, most dogs still need plenty of exercise throughout autumn and winter. In fact, regular walks and mental stimulation are just as important for keeping your dog happy and healthy when the seasons change.

As the days get shorter, it's worth making a few adjustments. If you're walking in the dark, make sure both you and your dog can be seen by wearing reflective gear or using light-up collars. After muddy adventures, don't forget to check paws for grit, mud or anything that might cause irritation.

It's also worth remembering that some dogs feel the cold more than others. Puppies, older dogs, smaller or short-coated breeds, and dogs with long-term conditions such as osteoarthritis may be more uncomfortable in colder, damp weather. Regular vet check-ups can help keep these conditions well managed and ensure medication is adjusted when needed to keep them comfortable year-round."
