Held in the grounds of The Goodwood Estate, Goodwoof is a dog event like no other with plenty of activities for you and your dog to explore. From the Fastest Dog competition to Fido’s Lido, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Unsurprisingly, there will be dogs absolutely everywhere! With dozens of Dachshunds and loads of Labradors, you can expect to see a huge variety of dogs during your day out. The site is well-equipped to cater for your VIP (very important pet) with water stations, areas of shade and vets on hand, as well as plenty of activities for your dog to get involved with.

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, but there are usually enclosed areas available for dogs to be let off and stretch their legs.

However, having a dog is not a requirement to visit and there’s still plenty to see and do, meaning people without dogs can enjoy the event just as much as those accompanied by their canine companions.

There are a variety of exciting have-a-go sessions and activities throughout the weekend for both you and your dog to take part in. Activities are open to all and are included at no extra cost. Some of our favourites include the hoops and hurdles and of course, the Petplan Ball Pits!

Alongside all the fantastic activities, the weekend is also jam-packed with shows and displays.

Wander around the stunning Barkitecture exhibit; an architectural exhibition and competition of incredible kennel design. Or head over to the canine literary corner and listen to some well-known authors talk about all things dog. If you’re feeling more adventurous, check out the Field & Trail areas to watch all the incredible working dogs in action, or Action Sports for adrenaline-pumping competition!

When heading to a dog event, make sure to pack everything you need to have a great day out. Here’s our list of essentials:

• You and your dog’s entry tickets
• A water bottle and portable bowl for your dog
• Poo bags
• Treats
• Dog-friendly suncream or wipes
• A lead
• A well-fitting collar or harness with an ID tag that’s up-to-date with your contact information

Goodwoof will be busy with many dogs and people so there’s a few other things to consider before you go:

• Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up-to-date
• Consider your dog’s temperament before attending, especially if they can be over-excited or anxious around other dogs
• Be respectful of other people and dogs. Try not to allow your dog to approach others without checking first
• Check the weather forecast in advance and consider leaving old, vulnerable or very young dogs at home if the temperature is going to be very warm

Dog festivals can be so much fun for both you and your dog, however, they are often busy and noisy and can be over-stimulating. Make sure you’re aware of the different signs of stress in dogs, including excessive lip licking, yawning or an overreaction in behaviour, and keep an eye out for your dog displaying these behaviours.

If your dog becomes stressed or anxious, take them to a quieter area to calm down or consider heading home.
